FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

STAUFFER'S SERVICE ANSWERS

01

TOWING & PRICING

Vehicle towing, flatbeds, estimates, destinations and coverage.

How much will my tow cost?

Towing does not have one fixed price for every call. Cost depends on the vehicle's size and condition, the truck and equipment required, access, mileage, destination, labor, weather, traffic and whether recovery work is needed. Call dispatch or submit an online quote request with complete details for the most useful estimate available before service.

What kinds of towing services does Stauffer's provide?

Stauffer's provides light-duty, medium-duty and heavy-duty towing; wheel-lift and flatbed towing; commercial fleet towing; long-distance towing; RV and trailer towing; and towing for specialty vehicles and equipment. Visit Vehicle Towing for a complete overview.

When do I need a flatbed tow truck?

Flatbeds are commonly used for AWD and 4WD vehicles, luxury and exotic cars, motorcycles, classic vehicles, low-clearance vehicles, long-distance moves and vehicles whose damage or drivetrain makes wheel-lift towing unsuitable. Share the year, make, model, wheel condition, clearance and damage with dispatch so the appropriate truck can be assigned.

Can I choose where my vehicle is taken?

In most cases, yes. Subject to access, road conditions, distance and facility availability, Stauffer's can transport the vehicle to a repair shop, dealership, residence, fleet yard, storage facility or another approved destination. Tell dispatch your preferred destination when requesting vehicle towing.

Do you offer long-distance and fleet towing?

Yes. Stauffer's can coordinate long-distance towing, commercial-account support and fleet vehicle movement across its operating footprint. Scheduling and pricing depend on vehicle size, mileage, destination, route, current equipment availability and any special loading requirements. Contact Stauffer's to discuss recurring or multi-vehicle needs.

02

ROADSIDE & RECOVERY

Breakdowns, accidents, winch-outs and roadside safety.

Do you provide roadside assistance without towing?

Yes. Depending on the vehicle and location, roadside assistance may include jump starts, tire changes, vehicle lockouts, fuel delivery and breakdown support. Dispatch will determine whether roadside service or towing is the safest and most practical solution.

What is recovery towing?

Recovery is required when a vehicle cannot be loaded through a routine tow. Examples include a vehicle in a ditch, snowbank, rollover, steep shoulder, off-road position or collision scene. Stauffer's Emergency Recovery service includes winch-outs, rollover recovery, heavy-duty recovery, off-road extraction and accident-scene support.

What should I do while waiting for a tow truck?

Move as far away from active traffic as safely possible, turn on the hazard lights and follow instructions from law enforcement or dispatch. Do not stand between vehicles or beside traffic lanes. Keep your phone available, gather keys and necessary vehicle information, and notify dispatch if your location or safety situation changes. Call 911 first when anyone is injured or in immediate danger.

What should I do after a vehicle accident?

Check for injuries and call 911 when needed. Follow police instructions, move to a safe location when possible and avoid standing near moving traffic. After the scene is secure, call Stauffer's for vehicle towing or recovery support. Have your location, vehicle details, damage and preferred destination ready.

How do I locate my vehicle after a serious accident?

Ask the responding police department or agency which towing company removed the vehicle. Then contact that company to confirm the storage location, required identification, release paperwork, payment requirements and operating hours. For questions about a vehicle handled by Stauffer's, contact the team with the incident location and vehicle information.

03

COMMERCIAL & SPECIALTY SERVICES

Heavy vehicles, mobile road service, cargo and environmental response.

Do you tow semi-trucks, buses, RVs and commercial vehicles?

Yes. Stauffer's operates equipment for medium-duty and heavy-duty towing, including commercial trucks, tractor-trailers, buses, RVs, motorhomes, trailers and equipment. Vehicle weight, dimensions, load, damage, position and access determine the unit and support equipment required. Start with Vehicle Towing or call dispatch for an immediate assessment.

What is the difference between roadside assistance and road service?

Roadside Assistance covers common passenger-vehicle needs such as jump starts, lockouts, tire changes and fuel delivery. Road Service is designed for commercial and heavier vehicles and may include mobile truck repair, diesel breakdown support, tire or battery assistance and on-site fleet support.

What cargo-handling services are available?

Stauffer's Cargo Handling services may include load shifts and transfers, cargo recovery, palletization, freight handling and disposal coordination. Dispatch will need the cargo type, vehicle and trailer information, approximate weight, condition, location and any hazards before assigning resources.

Do you handle fuel spills and environmental cleanup?

Yes. Stauffer's Environmental services include fuel and oil spill response, cargo and debris cleanup, accident-site remediation, recovery support and disposal coordination. Tell dispatch what material is involved, whether it is actively leaking and which agencies are already at the scene.

Can one call coordinate towing, recovery, cargo and cleanup?

Yes. Complex commercial incidents may require several service categories at once. Stauffer's can coordinate recovery, towing, cargo handling, environmental response and follow-up transportation based on scene conditions and available equipment.

04

DISPATCH, LOCATIONS & COVERAGE

Response timing, service areas and what information to provide.

Where is Stauffer's Road Solutions located?

Stauffer's has 30 operating locations across Utah, Idaho, Wyoming and Nevada. View the current addresses and locator map on the Service Areas page. Mobile coverage extends beyond the physical pins based on the closest appropriate truck, road access and current availability.

How quickly can a tow truck reach me?

Response timing depends on your exact location, traffic, weather, road closures, current call volume and the type of equipment required. Call dispatch with a street address, mile marker, travel direction or dropped pin for the most accurate estimated arrival window available at that time.

What information should I give dispatch?

Provide your exact location, travel direction, vehicle year, make and model, approximate size or weight, condition, damage, whether it can roll, steer or brake, passenger safety needs and preferred destination. Commercial calls should also include trailer, load and cargo information.

How do I request Stauffer's service?

For immediate roadside or emergency assistance, call (801) 869-2727. For planned service or a non-emergency estimate, use the online quote form. General questions and commercial-account inquiries can be submitted through the Contact page.

Will insurance, roadside coverage or a warranty pay for towing?

Coverage depends on your policy, warranty, roadside plan and the reason for the tow. Contact the insurer, warranty provider or roadside-assistance administrator to confirm authorization, limits, reimbursement requirements and destination rules. Stauffer's cannot determine coverage on behalf of the provider, but dispatch can supply service documentation when available.
